Senate of Canada Building

Renovated as the temporary home of the Senate of Canada, the Government Conference Centre is located in Ottawa’s Parliamentary Precinct. A masterful example of Beaux-Arts Classicism, both monumental and restrained in its exterior expression, the building is a prominent component of the Confederation Square National Historic Site and is located within the Rideau Canal World Heritage Site’s Buffer Zone. In a joint venture with Diamond Schmitt Architects, the design team inserted contemporary language of new volumes and insertions, interior and exterior, that both compliments and juxtaposes the classical language of the original 1909 central train station.
