National War Memorial

Located in Ottawa’s Confederation Square, the National War Memorial rehabilitation project aimed to mitigate health and safety concerns while  protecting the heritage character of the site by implementing structural upgrades to the podium suspended slab that surrounds the cenotaph. In order to allow the existing granite memorial arch (The Response) to remain in situ, the structural reinforcement was accomplished through hundreds of strategically located core holes used to fill the gap between the bedrock and the underside of the slab with concrete.
