Ceremonial Greenhouses Rehabilitation

The Greenhouses on the grounds of Rideau Hall include six structures: the Ceremonial Greenhouse, the Palm House, and four other “production” greenhouses. The client’s (National Capital Commission) objective for the project was to reinstate the Palm House’s role as a main anchor of the Rideau Hall Greenhouses and Private Garden through the stabilization and rehabilitation of its foundation, superstructure and glazing. The project included a major rehabilitation of the circa 1926 Lord & Burnham Palm House and substantial preservation work on the Ceremonial Greenhouse, including full upgrades as required to meet modern universal accessibility, life safety, and seismic codes.

The Greenhouses are considered to be an integral part of Rideau Hall and Landscaped Grounds, a National Historic Site of Canada designated by the Federal Heritage Building Review Office.
